Webinar materials – Plugging Energy Efficiency First in Heating and Cooling Plans: Why and How

This workshop discussed the implications of integrating Energy Efficiency First (EE1st) in heating and cooling plans, how it could be done.

Jean-Sébastien Broc (IEECP) introduced the ENEFIRST Plus project and the overall approach for implementing EE1st: Introducing ENEFIRST Plus and the plug in approach to EE1st

Margot Pinault (European Commission – DG ENER) reminded the key components of the EU framework on heating and cooling, and the background of the upcoming EU strategy on heating and cooling: EU Heating and Cooling Strategy

Marco Peretto (IEECP) presented how EE1st can be implemented in heating and cooling plans, focusing on the process of the comprehensive assessments on heating and cooling, and how they can be an opportunity for integrated planning, by connecting with the National Buildings Renovation Plans and the national assessment of potentials for RES-heat. Marco also provided an overview of tools and references that can support these assessments and the implementation of EE1st: Integrating EE1st in heating and cooling plans.

Christos Tourkolias (CRES) presented the results of the ENEFIRST Plus’ Greek pilot case about implementing EE1st in comprehensive assessment on heating and cooling, with a focus on the CBA comparing options to meet heating and cooling needs: Integrating EE1st in comprehensive assessments on heating and cooling – Feedback from the Greek pilot case.

Claire Florette (ADEME) presented ADEME’s experience with the ENR’Choix approach that helps guiding project holders in the design and specifications of their investments in renewable heat and/or cooling, when applying for grants of the French Heat Fund: EnR’CHOIX (Energy efficiency and RES merit order)

The presentations were followed by a panel discussion with Stane Merse (Jozef Stefan Institute, Slovenia and domain coordinator on heating and cooling at the CA EED), Margot Pinault, Claire Florette and Christos Tourkolias.
