European Workshop – Energy savings potentials for policymaking: Examples in the context of the EED

The workshop held on 17th December 2024 provided practical examples of resources on energy savings potentials and how they inform policymaking, considering more specifically two contexts: 

• Implementing the Energy Efficiency First principle (Article 3 of the Energy Efficiency Directive) 
• Member States’ energy savings obligation (Article 8 of the Energy Efficiency Directive)

• Key findings from the sEEnergies project – Pr. Brian Vad Mathiesen, (Aalborg University and coordinator of sEEnergies)

Part 2 – Energy savings potentials & Article 8 EED 

• Examples of studies on energy savings potentials in EU Member States, with a focus on France’ white certificates scheme – Solenne Toum (ATEE)

• Example of a specific action type: energy savings potential from early replacement of electric motors – Robin Barkhausen (Fraunhofer ISI and EU-MORE project)
